Order Test Kits
Our company provides the fastest and most accurate radon testing services available. We also provide free advice and free consultations for anyone that would like to do their own testing. Our substantial investment in equipment and radon testing technology, more than anyone else in the entire industry, allows us to provide every type of radon test available.
The two most popular methods for radon testing are charcoal test kits and Continuous Radon Monitor's (CRM's).
If you are testing your own personal home or building, we recommend saving money by using a Do-It-Yourself charcoal test kit. These types of testing devices are inexpensive, easy to use and are very accurate so long as the instructions are followed. Please be aware that some of the test kits available from local hardware and home improvement stores may have hidden fees or charges for lab analysis that are not included in the retail purchase price. If you would like a test kit that includes everything for only $10, please call our office or order online at radonawareness.org. If you have any questions after purchasing a test kit from any location, please do not hesitate to call.
If you are buying or building a home insist on hiring Professional House Doctors, Inc. ® Our test equipment provides the fastest and most accurate results available, approved by The USEPA with results in as little as 46 hours. Our Continuous Radon Monitors (CRM's) are the preferred method as they can detect tampering and provide an immediate on-site print out that shows hourly concentrations and the average radon level during the time period tested.
Be sure to allow enough time for a radon test as part of your "Offer To Buy" so that it may be performed as part of the home inspection process. The EPA recommends that every home in America be tested for radon, but one of the best times to find out if a home has a problem is before you buy it! Call us for scheduling information and price.
For other types of radon tests, we also provide Instant Radon Diagnostic Sampling, Grab Sampling, Radon Integrated Progeny Sampling Units (for measuring exact amounts of radon daughters like thorium or bismuth), Radon In Solids and Building Materials, Radon In Water, Alpha, Beta or Gamma Sampling, and Alpha Track and E-Perm.
We are also one of the only non-governmental groups in the United States with our own certified radiation source. This is used for precise equipment calibration and cross check measurements. A Radium 226 Sealed Source, Registered Serial #202 with 4,999 disintegrations per minute.
What do your radon results mean?
After testing, your radon levels will be reported to you in picoCuries per liter (pCi/L). The higher the number, the higher the risk. Outside air is typically 0.2 to 0.8 pCi/L but can sometimes as be as high as 1.5 pCi/L. The EPA says that if your home test results are between 2.0 and 3.9 pCi/L, you should seriously consider fixing it. The EPA has selected 4.0 pCi/L as the “Take Action” guideline and says that at that level or higher, you should fix it. Period. The World Health Organization has selected a lower action guideline and says everyone should fix their homes if the level exceeds 2.7 pCi/L. Again, the higher your radon level, the higher your risk.
